Dr. Jordan Koivu
Owner & Veterinarian
Dr. Koivu has always had a passion for horses and a vision of building an equine veterinary practice that provided elite care for companions and athletes in her homeland, the Maritimes. After years of diverse education and experience, she returned to the east coast and started Maritime Equine Veterinary Services.
Charlotte Wightman
Operations Manager & Veterinary Assistant
Charlotte grew up on her family's standardbred breeding farm in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Between her upbringing and her passion for competition in the Nova Scotia Hunter/Jumper circuit, it was no surprise that she gravitated towards a career in equine services.
Dr. Emily Comstock
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Emily Comstock started riding horses at the age of 10 and grew up as an active member of her local equine 4-H club in Barre, Vermont. After working at a referral centre and then running her large animal practice in Vermont, she followed her vision to move to the Maritimes to lay down roots and raise her son while taking a position with Maritime Equine.
Some of the Equine Services We Offer

Lameness Evaluations
Thorough evaluation including palpation of limbs and axial skeleton, flexions, lunging on varied surfaces and often undersaddle assessment help guide appropriate diagnostics and subsequent treatments for whatever your lameness issue may be.
Prepurchase Examinations
Allow us to help you search for your next equine partner. We are happy to perform prepurchases for clients across North America. Prepurchase exams include a detailed physical and soundness examination, as well as flexions and a brief neurologic exam. Radiographs, ultrasound and bloodwork can also be included depending on the requirements of the purchaser.
Rehabilitation
We are happy to design a rehab plan to get your equine partner back in work following an injury. Shockwave is a highly effective modality we can incorporate into our rehabilitation plans.
Preventative Care
Vaccination, Parasite Prevention, and Dental Floating are important parts of a well rounded wellness plan to keep your equine companion healthy and happy. We can also run annual blood panels for both young and senior patients to ensure their systems are working well and they are receiving all the nutrients they need.
Gastroscopy
Equine gastric ulcer syndrome can be a common cause of behavioural issues, poor performance and loss of condition. Take a look inside your horse's stomach to determine the best course of treatment.
Integrative Therapies
Acupuncture and Chiropractic care are effective complimentary therapies that we offer to our clients.
